楊蕭慧儀生於香港,四歲時隨家人移民到加拿大。她畢業於UBC,是一對雙胞胎的親生母親及七個孩子的養母。

Born in Hong Kong, Wai and her family immigrated to Canada when she was 4 years old. Wai graduated from the University of BC and is a birth mother of twins and a foster parent to seven children.
After decades of volunteerism and work in government, Wai became the first Conservative MP in Vancouver in over 23 years when she won against the former NDP Premier of BC, Ujjal Dosanjh.

In 2011, Wai Young defeated the former NDP Premier of British Columbia to become the Member of Parliament for Vancouver South, proving herself to be a true winner!
Wai was proud to serve in the Stephen Harper government, which balanced the budget, reduced crime, and grew the economy. As the only Government MP in the City of Vancouver, she championed and brought home over 60 major community projects and initiatives.
She founded the Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Tour, bringing together public policy leaders, civil society, and organizations like YVR and Port Metro Vancouver to strengthen Canada’s competitive edge. Wai also championed the Asia-Pacific Gateway Skills Program, helping Canadians make informed career decisions and connect with jobs in international trade. Wai is proud to have brought home North America’s Reminbi Financial Hub to Canada, saving Canadian businesses millions of dollars daily, in unnecessary exchange fees.

in the lower mainland, including Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside where she witnessed the impact of rampant drug use. This spurred her to contribute to the growth of numerous community organizations such as S.U.C.C.E.S.S., the Strathcona Community Centre, the Villa Cathay Care Home, and YWCA Vancouver.
In her role as a First Nations Youth Worker, Wai worked with youth and families in the Downtown Eastside, Her experience there led her to found and chair a Youth at Risk Task Force. Her leadership led to a national multi-million dollar “Youth At Risk” program funded by the National Crime Prevention Centre. Wanting to have direct impact, Wai became a foster mother for 18 years and raised seven children in her home.
As President of the Strathcona Community Centre, Wai recognized that many inner-city children were attending school hungry. She successfully overcame many administrative and funding barriers to establish what is now the longest-running breakfast and food program in Canada.
Wai also supported the creation of Canada’s first Community Garden and expanded the linear park system.

Project Highlights for Wai include:
Killarney Seniors Centre: A 10,000 sq ft state-of-the-art facility providing seniors in South Vancouver, Marpole, and Richmond with essential programs and support services. Wai brought home the funding for this project.
Kitsilano Neighbourhood House: This redevelopment project included new seniors’ housing with a rooftop garden, a childcare centre, and an expanded community centre.
Supportive Community Housing: Projects such as 1249 Howe Street and the YWCA Cause We Care House provide housing and vital community services for individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Fare gates on SkyTrain: were installed throughout the network to update the system and improve fiscal operations.
Funding to drive economic growth and foreign investment for wireless small and medium-sized enterprises (SME’s).
